Leisel Suhr is an Australian fine artist specialising in equine portraiture. Her works can be found in private collections Australia wide, in New Zealand, America, Canada, the Middle East and Europe.

Her work is renouned for capturing play on light and irridescence of coat, pastel comes alive with detail and radiates warmth. With a strong focus on realism, Leisel strives to create softness in her work without losing definition.

Leisel's interest in both art and horses started as a child and she has progressed through self education, her hands-on experience with horses and her dedication to realistic sculptural work has given her both an understanding of equine anatomy and the ability to reflect each horse's unique personality through movement and expression in her paintings.

As of 2012 Leisel works full time in her home studio, situated in a peaceful rural setting in the beautiful Adelaide Hills of South Australia.
Her first sculpture is due for limited edition release in November 2012.

Leisel works predominately with pastels, a dry pure pigment, mixed with a binder and moulded into chalk-like sticks. This medium lends itself beautifully to achieving both softness and detail. Only artist quality materials are ever used, these are of an archival grade and are guaranteed to be the most lasting, they contain the most professional grade of pure pigment, ensuring works are of the highest quality, bright, and full of irridescence.
The paper used is a specific archival grade pastel paper, it holds the pigment beautifully and there is minimal dust loss. The paper is available in a massive range of colours.

A limited number of commissions are taken every year, subject to the artist's availability, and preference is given on a 'first come, first serve' basis. Please feel free to enquire directly to the artist with any comments or queries using the 'contact' tab at the top of the page.

National and international postage is included in the sale price of all works, both painted and sculpted.
